I will say that Lazy Moon holds a near and dear place in my heart. This was one of my favorite places to catch a bite after a long night of boozing in college. With that said, this place isn't one of my favorites just because it reminds me of simpler times, their pizzas are phenomenal.
Currently they are located on University Boulevard near the intersection of Rouse Road. They used to be located in the plaza directly across from UCF next to the Knight Library. I remember doing my fair share of late night "studying" at the Library before stumbling over for a pizza. Their new location is cleaner and more spacious so it's good to see them flourishing.
When you walk in, you definitely get hit with the college vibe. The inside is bright and vibrant and a lot of the wall decor is a collection of nonsensical randomness, but it works.
College students are the main patrons here with a few families sprinkled in. The environment is very laid back, a great place to grab a few friends to hang out and share a few laughs with a brew in hand. If you're a student, you'll feel right at home being among your peers, if you are past 25, you'll probably feel like Seth Rogen in "Neighbors".
The service is good for what it is, and I don't mean that in a negative context. The restaurant is setup on a semi-fast food system. As you enter, you approach a counter where you place your order. Once you've made your selection, you grab a seat and wait for your food. When your food is ready, the servers will come around with your food in hand.
There are plenty of servers to go around and each one is friendly and attentive. Every time we cleared a plate or finished a glass, someone was right there to clear it. I was definitely impressed with the staff.
This is always the best part...the FOOD! There are a few things you can do here. You can order a pizza by the slice (or by the box) and select your own personal toppings, you can select a pizza from their "lazy faves" which include a buffalo chicken and a bbq chicken variety to name a few, they have a number of calzones/melts, soups and more. Oh and did I mention a slice of their pizza is bigger than your face? Because it is.
The topping selection is pretty solid. You can start off with a basic slice and add to your heart's content. I will mention their "Boxcar Willy" is an unbeatable deal. You get a cheese slice and a pint of PBR for just $4.25 (you can add additional toppings of course for an up charge).
They've got an impressive selection of beers on tap and in bottles as well. We started off with a pitcher/jug of PBR because it was $4 and you can't beat that. Now for the pizza...
The ingredients are fresh and very flavorful. You can taste each one in every bite and no matter what you decide to get, they all work well together.
For 2 custom slices and a jug of PBR and tip, I think the damage was only $24 and change. A slice is $3.65 and each topping is an extra .85 to 1.25. The prices are reasonable and caters to the pockets of their demographic. Overall, great value that's hard to beat.
Nostalgia aside, Lazy Moon is a great restaurant with a fun atmosphere and great food. In my opinion, it's some of the best pizza you can find in Central Florida and you won't break the bank here. If you are a pizza lover, looking to reminisce your college days, or just looking for a late night bite, this is the place for you. A must go!
